SPANISH ROADS&TRIPS I

Actualizado: 15 abr 2021

In this section I will show you, step by step, different places I think are interesting for bikers. I mean: Twisty roads, pavement quality, beautiful landscapes... and not often a bit of relevant tourist information. At the moment only nearest zone from my home. Others further places in Spain are unknown for me at the moment. Probably I will get the most of my whole country during this pandemic crisis. I suppose it would be easier than travel others foreing countries. I am lucky. Spain is enough big, varied and diverse to have fun and enjoy a lot riding a bike. From beautiful landscapes, ancient Roman, Musul etc history, culture to amazing gastronomy. Even for Spanish people!!!. So do not doubt to come here when pandemia over.

Ibor Valley.

Guadalupe Monastery, XIV century. Main gate. Jun/2018.

This twisty road is not very long (about 50km from Bohonal de Ibor to Guadalupe) but is in good conditions. It is very fun, easy and pleasant to ride it. Boring is not possible. You will want to ride in both ways. Near to the Ibor valley we can achieve lots of interesting places: Gredos Mountains at North (Jerte and Tietar Valleys), Monfrague National Park at the West, beautiful towns, ancient remains. From meadows to forests. Tajo river (one of the most important in Spain), lakes, dumps etc etc...

Talavera de la Reina. Beautiful little town. Roman antiquities and proud of their famous ceramic art.

Roman Bridge. Tajo river. Talavera de la Reina.

Oropesa Castle. XII/XIII Century.

Oropesa Castle. It is also a special Hotel. This is a "Parador Nacional". They usually are not cheap but sometime you can get offers.

Valdecañas Lake and La cilla temple Roman antiques.

Ibor Valley road. Beatutiful, fun and pleasant road.

Guadalupe Monastery inner cloister.

Back-left side Guadalupe Monastery. Monastery is also a Hostel (Hospederia). Entry by hostel to visit inner cloister is free. For complete guiding visit you have to pay your ticket at the main gate (first picture).

GRAZALEMA PARK

Varied orography you can climb high mountains or descent deep valleys.Very touristic place. Better come in Spring/Autumn. Road in good conditions except between "Mojon de la Vibora - Puerto Galiz". Very narrow and bumpy road and with no very beautiful landscape views. It´s a "green tunnel". Forest around you every time. But It isn´t very long... in the end, what do you expect? This is a Park!!!. Ronda, Grazalema, El bosque, Zahara de la Sierra or Olvera would be nice place to rest.

Grazalema.

Grazalema.

Covezuelas Valley, near Villaluenga del Rosario.

"Mojon de la Vibora". (Snake´s Cairn?).

Virgen de los Milagros Puerto Galiz

Guadalcacin Reservoir. From this point to "El bosque", CA-6107 road is very pleasant and easy to ride. You can try for lunch grilled trout at "El bosque".

Puerto del Boyar. In spite of being souther than other places, Grazalema is one of the most rainy region from Spain. Atlantic Storms usually pours there. So don´t forget take your raincoat with you!!!

Puerto de las Palomas (Dove´s Port?). Descend from Dove´s Port to Zahara de la Sierra is very excited. Narrow and twisty road with cliffs is very awesome. Background Zahara-El gastor lake is very beautiful.

SEVILLA´S NORTH MOUNTAIN RANGE

Here we can ride across peaceful meadows. Twisty roads often in good condition. Not usually great landscape views because once you climb from Guadalquivir valley to Constantina then, rest of the trip, will go on the same level. The ascent by A-455 road is constant, soft and without abrupts. Because of flora and wild fauna you will have to assume normal-low speed. No good visibility between closer blind-curves in several sections. Like Italian people says "Piano piano, se arriva lontano". Cazalla de la Sierra or Navas de la concepcion good place to rest and lunch tapas.

Somewhere in the middle of the route.

Navas de la Concepción.

Hornachuelos Natural Park at East.

Retortillo reservoir.

JUCAR & CABRIEL RIVERS.

These shy rivers flowing through narrow gorges are very beautiful. During Autumn you can smell and feel tipical riverside forest.

Jucar river

Jucar river and Alcala del Jucar. Tipical bars in Alcala del jucar are buildt inside mountain. Different caves provide good views while you take a coffe or tapa. Cuevas del Diablo (Devil´s Caves)

Cabriel river

Section A-2109 from Mira to Cardenete awesom road...You don´t see river but you enjoy a lot. C7 near to Tabaqueros very bad surface, cracked, bumpy...but is only few kilometers. Slowly and carefully Ninet pure could manage. Easier for trail bikes.

RINCON DE ADEMUZ (ADEMUZ´S CORNER?)

Rincon de Ademuz is a little part of one region inside anothers one!!!. It belongs to Valencia but It is in Aragon/Castilla la mancha.

Lonely and twisty roads, beautiful landscapes...several ports in good conditions.

Benageber lake.

Turia river. Between "Santa cruz de Moya" and "Aras de los Olmos"

St. Roque´s Hermitage, XVI/XVII century. Near "Puebla de San Miguel".

During this trip you have several mountain ports: Losilla, Chulilla, De la Mora, Requena, Cofrentes...My favourite is Losilla. A kind of little "Stelvio" with some "Tornantis".

Losilla port.
